Meet Shane

Shane’s family have been visiting Blade since 2020, as the only salon in their area with a designated Sensory Studio - Blade has changed the way they view haircuts for the better.

Shane has been visiting Blade for most of life, with his family quickly understanding that traditional salons wouldn’t work for them. Whilst his first appointment came with a few hurdles, the experience has improved dramatically for them since then, helping Shane overcome his fears around to the experience.

“He is very anxious, but he's a lot better now than when he first came here. He was about four years old. I think it was.”

They found that routine appointments helped Shane to understand why he’s having his haircut and eased any anxiety around the appointments.

“When he first came, there was a couple of incidents where he got really upset and anxious and didn't know what was going on. But as he's been coming more often, he's become more used to it and more understanding of why he's coming to have it done.”

“We've have tried other places, but they didn't have a sensory room, and they didn't really understand how to approach him. But obviously here, with the sensory room, that's very good for him, because it calms him down. I find this place really good and it suits his needs.”

They’d tried other places in the area without much luck, and soon realised that a bespoke approach was needed for a successful and stress-free appointment. The sessions here have helped Shane build confidence in other aspects of his life, helping him work up the courage to leave the house and have new experiences.

“He's more understanding of things, and he's going out or he's coming here, where as before he wouldn't!”
